Joshua learned that Moses' secret to starting off the day right was to rise early (Ex.8:20; 34:4) which he praticed when he succeeded Moses (Josh. 3:1; 6:12,15; 7:16; 8:10).
The benefits of rising early are many: (1) Rising early gives you a great start to your day. There is nothing like early-morning devotions! (2) Rising early encourages self-discipline in the Christian Life. It puts the principle of "dying to self" in practice. (3) Rising early will give you more hours in the day. (4) Rising early sets a good example for others. (5) Rising early avails you to the Scriptures Ps.63:1 and Prov.8:17.
If you would incorporate early rising into your daily schedule you must attempt to go to bed at a good hour. It is also important not to look down upon others who are not rising early, also do your best not to disturb the rest of the house. Finally, when rising early, apply Col.3:5 and mortify the body.

Unless all the water in the world, However hard it tried, Could never sink a sailing ship Unless it got inside. All the evil in the world - The wickedness and sin - Can never sink your soul's fair craft. Unless you let it in. unknown author
